Each month we look to highlight one of our employees and the great work that they do here at Method!
Katherine Rorie is our Studio Manager for the Architectural Interiors Team at Method and she grew up in the suburbs of Houston in Pearland, Texas! She received her Bachelor of Environmental Design at Texas A&M and her Master of Architecture at the University of Houston!
Check out our latest catch up with Katherine:
What first interested you in architecture?
From a very early age, I’ve always enjoyed drawing. In high school, my mom thought I might be interested in architecture and enrolled me in University of Houston’s Summer Discovery Program, a 5-week class that included a design studio, history classes, and field trips to architecturally significant buildings throughout Texas. I went on to teach at the Summer Discovery Program while I was in grad school.
What is your favorite project you are currently working on and why?
My favorite current and past projects are the breweries and distilleries. It’s always exciting to help someone realize their dream. Navigating city codes and the permitting process can be difficult, but the end result is always worth it. Plus, it’s really cool to see a beer in my local grocery store and know the people behind it.
What do you enjoy most about working at Method?
I love the fact that our office is flexible and casual. I have 2 kids so strict hours or time off would be very difficult! I also enjoy a wide range of projects we do. No two projects are the same and it is NEVER boring!
My favorite aspect of my job is figuring out the “puzzle” of a project. Each one is unique in its program, code requirements, and style. It’s up to us to figure out how all the pieces come together.
Outside of work, what are your favorite hobbies and things to do?
I, of course, love spending time with my favorite people in the world- my husband and children. I’ve also recently started running and just finished my first half-marathon (with my coworker, Jackie!). Also, I love going to concerts and Astros games.
