Project Overview

For Hummingbird Montessori School, a ground up school and daycare for infants – Pre-K located in Sugarland, Texas, Method was responsible for both the shell building and interior buildout.

Each classroom design was thoughtful created by working with the team of Hummingbird to understand what each of the classes needs were with their foundation based learning approach. Their school program focuses on bringing out the fun in learning which can help be shown through the interior design from the subtle forest theme with colors of greens and blues to the large blue carpet designs placed within the wood floors to create an expansive play and learning area.  A shelf tree with green ‘clouds’ in the ceiling as the tree leaves will be placed in a classroom as the reading nook. These playful features in the design encourage learning through play for children.

The exterior building was designed with a large covered drop off zone for parents and their children. We worked closely with Hummingbird and the playground vendor to assemble a detailed playground package design to ensure all safety and compliance needs were met. A covered canopy was added above all equipment to help combat the summer Texas heat. Another playful design for the exterior playground included a “road” for tricycles.

This project during permitting had to be reviewed by multiple entities including the county and city, all with different permit requirements. We coordinated closely with all aspects of the project team to ensure that code was met and have the safety of the children at the school a priority. Method proactively researched not only permitting codes for the jurisdiction this project was in, but also whether the specific county or neighborhood of the project’s location have any additional permitting requirements to help avoid any issues with the design and maintain deadline and budget.
