Project Overview
The Maruchan Food Processing Plant is a food manufacturing facility located in the Medio Creek Business Park in South San Antonio. Led by their International Design-Build Partner, Taisei Texas, the project is a comprehensive production and distribution center for the region. Taisei, familiar with GSC and its attention to highly technical projects, chose our team for implementation of all phases of the project. The main building is a 550,000 square foot high-bay facility with a volume to accommodate plant production space, high bay automated shipping/ receiving warehouse, and multi-level corporate offices. Situated on a 61 acre site near IH 35 and Loop 410, the plant enables an efficient path for receiving mass quantities of raw materials by multiple modes of delivery, and facilitating continuous truck shipping, as well as 24-hour personnel operations. The facility is equipped with an on-site wastewater treatment facility that cleans and recycles process water for landscape irrigation. The building is sited to allow for expansion of the warehouse to the north, additional parking spaces, and semi-trailer docks and staging. Humidity control and highly controlled air distribution were an important part of the design in areas where dry powder products are handled, and where food production processes occur. Air showers at employee entrances, air showers and interlocks at raw material receiving, and specialized truck docking systems, provided the clean environment required for this advanced manufacturing facility.
