The Mexican Consulate Austin

Location

Austin, TX

Size

26,000 Sf

GSC Architects was engaged to design a new headquarters for the Mexican Consulate in Austin, Texas. The previous facility was overwhelmed by the large amount of traffic coming through, as well as outdated and in need of repair. The new 26,000-square-foot facility in Southeast Austin is housed in the former campus of Advanced Micro Devices.

This bright and airy new space features meeting and event settings for nonprofit and community organizations, a gallery with a permanent exhibit, and larger waiting areas, including private waiting rooms for people seeking protection services. The new location also offers approximately 150 free parking spaces, an important amenity as most of the consulate’s visitors arrive by car. The grounds of the Mexican Consulate also include a jogging trail, pond, and lush outdoor space where events can be held. Creating a welcoming space that promotes community, culture and pride are keys to the Austin consulate’s continued growth and were a central focus of the design work.
