Camille Jackson participated on the panel “Riding the Vortex”
The 45th Annual International Conference for the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) was held in Houston, Texas in October. The conference gathered hundreds of professionals in the design industry to network, learn and grow. Method Architecture was represented by Camille E. Jackson, Melvalean McLemore-Catina and Nadia Mohammed.
Camille E. Jackson participated as a panelist for “Riding the Vortex”, a panel for minority women to talk about their experience in the industry. The panel consisted of designers, with diverse backgrounds and experience levels, discussing lessons learned, what they wish they’d learned in architecture school and their aspirations for themselves and women in the industry.
Melvalean McLemore-Catina also represented the TxA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Taskforce who were speaking with leaders at the conference about potential involvement in future AIA and TxA events. Mel is one of the founding members of AIA Houston’s Women in Architecture committee.
“It was such a rewarding experience participating in the panel and the conference,” said Camille E. Jackson. “I met professionals from all over the world. It was great to hear the perspectives and experiences of other minority women and men in the industry and I look forward to next year’s conference.”
Mel, Camille and Nadia attended the NOMA Bro’s Art Ball.
NOMA, founded in 1971, aims to champion diversity within the design professions by promoting excellence, community engagement, and the professional development of its members. The next annual conference will be held in Chicago in November 2018.
